An overlooked factor
One thing far too many people overlook when deciding on which service provider to choose for their Internet access is security. When considering what people transmit over the Internet on a daily basis, security should be the most important factor to consider in any sort of Internet transaction.
Every day, millions of people send their full name, phone numbers, addresses, credit cards, and even their social security number digitally. Without proper encryption, this can lead to most people’s worst fear, identity theft.
Encryption is security
At least one Satellite Internetservice provider has not overlooked the customer’s personal security. HughesNet sees the value in not only guarding their network from malicious activity, but also guarding their individual customers from breaches in privacy.
In fact, whereas most people would consider a single layer of encryption on their data to be sufficient, HughesNet has gone the extra mile and used the same high level encryption standard used by some of the most secure places, the Triple Data Encryption Standard, or 3DES.
This means that every piece of data that is sent to one of HughesNet’s satellites and every shred of information they send back is encrypted three times over.
How does HughesNet Triple Encryption Security work?
When HughesNet sends out a satellite modem to one of their customers, there is a special chip inside of it that contains an extremely long string of numbers and letters that is called a key in data encryption.
This key, which is 100 percent unique from every other satellite modem that HughesNet has ever sent out, is matched up with its identical twin at HughesNet headquarters every time it is connected to the Internet.
This means the entire time that the data is being transferred between the customer and HughesNet (where all of the company’s Internet access originates from), there is no place where the data could be stolen.
However, this does not mean to go downloading everything in sight, as data can still be stolen as result of user error.
